Our Girls Basketball Training Programs & Skills Training

Illinois Attack offers a full calendar of girls' basketball training programs designed to develop players at every level — from beginners just learning the game to advanced players preparing for high school and AAU competition. Our year-round programs include:

  • Pre-Season Academy — Fall skill development sessions for 3rd–8th grade players focused on individual skill development and team fundamentals.

  • 4PM Skills Training — After-school basketball skills classes for players in 3rd through 8th grade.

  • Thursday & Friday Night Training — Evening team training emphasizing game situations, competitive play, and basketball IQ.

  • Sunday Night Training — Full player development sessions including shooting mechanics, ball handling, and defensive positioning.

  • Summer Training — Morning and evening program options for players who want to develop their game during the off-season.

  • Shooting Clinics — Focused sessions on shot mechanics, footwork, and scoring in a variety of game scenarios.

We also offer private training and small-group individual sessions led by our experienced coaching staff. These 1-on-1 and small-group formats allow our basketball trainers to address each player's unique needs — whether it's ball handling, footwork, finishing, or basketball skills under pressure. Girls' basketball development is most effective when it's consistent. Our program structure ensures that players are improving month over month, with each session building toward stronger team and individual performance.

Developing Skills, Confidence & Leadership in Young Women

At Illinois Attack, we believe that great basketball players are made through more than just practice. Our coaching philosophy is rooted in the idea that young women who play basketball develop life skills that extend well beyond the court — discipline, communication, resilience, and leadership.

Our girls' basketball program focuses on three core areas:

  1. Skill Development — Every player works on basketball fundamentals in every session: dribbling, passing, shooting mechanics, defense, and basketball IQ. Our coaching staff ensures that each player learns the correct techniques from the start and builds on them consistently.

  2. Competitive Experience — From local leagues to regional tournaments, our girls compete at a high level throughout the season. This exposure sharpens their game and prepares them for high school tryouts and beyond.

  3. Character Growth — We don't just develop basketball players; we develop leaders. Our coaches prioritize mentorship, accountability, and teamwork, creating an environment where every young woman feels valued and challenged.

Whether your daughter is just starting to learn basketball or is a seasoned player aiming for a college scholarship, Illinois Attack has a program for her. Explore our basketball camp options, seasonal programs, and resources for families on our website.

Frequently Asked Questions About Girls Basketball Training

What is the best age to start basketball for girls?

Girls can start learning basketball fundamentals as early as ages 5–7. Illinois Attack's Jump Start program is designed for girls in Kindergarten through 2nd grade, focusing on basic movement, coordination, and love of the game. Structured team play and competitive training begin at 3rd grade.

How can my daughter get better at basketball?

Consistent practice, quality coaching, and competitive experience are the three keys. Enroll in a structured program with experienced basketball trainers who can guide her development systematically. Illinois Attack offers year-round girls basketball training for all skill levels — from kids just starting out to high school players seeking collegiate exposure.

How do I structure a girls basketball practice?

A well-structured practice includes a warm-up, individual skill work (ball handling, shooting drills, footwork), team concepts (offensive sets, defensive schemes), and competitive game situations. Illinois Attack coaches structure every session to maximize development time and keep players engaged throughout.

What is a good age to start AAU basketball?

Most players begin AAU basketball between ages 9–11, typically starting in 4th or 5th grade. Illinois Attack's competitive travel teams start from 3rd grade, giving girls an early foundation in organized, coached basketball that prepares them for AAU and high school competition.
